A busy Easter long weekend for the OPP West Region who kept busy with their seat belt campaign.
Over the 3 day campaign from April 3rd-6th, police laid 168 charges under Ontario’s seat belt law, a massive improvement from a five year high of 338 laid in 2025.
OPP say failure to wear a seat belt was a factor in 41 deaths on OPP patrolled roads last year, 14 of which occurring on West Region roads.
This year there have 4 deaths in the region coming from failures to wear a seat belt.
While the campaign ends, police continue to enforce the seat belt law to reduce the number of needless deaths across the province.
