The Goderich Celtic Roots Festival has shared some of the big names expected to attend their annual August celebration in 2023.
In a presentation to local council seeking grant funding of around $10,000, members of the board also mentioned which artists had confirmed for the upcoming festival.
The list includes the award-winning Friel Sisters from Glasgow, Scotland. Siblings Anna, Sheila and Clare play “a mixture of music interspersed with songs in English and Irish, many from their family repertoire.”
The festival will also welcome the de Barra Family band from Dublin, featuring 2000’s Young Traditional Musician of The Year Award Éamonn de Barra and television presenter and harpist Cormac De Barra.
And for the first time ever, Celtic Roots will host Morgan Toney, Mi’kmaq folk singer-songwriter and one of the most in-demand young fiddlers in Atlantic Canada.
The Goderich Celtic Roots Festival runs from Aug. 7-13. For more info, visit celticfestival.ca.
During the presentation to council, members of the festival board also acknowledged the loss of former president Greg Reynolds, who passed away on Jan. 3.
