Bruce County council finalized their letter to Minister Steven Clark about the province’s handling of Bill 23, the More Homes Built Faster Act.
The controversial legislation that restricts municipal planning authority was passed over the winter.
The county objected to the bill being tabled during the fall, when municipal governments were in transition periods following elections. They also cited a lack of consolation as a major concern.
Though council all agreed with the message, Warden Chris Peabody proposed a change to the letter, citing conversations with MPP Rick Byers.
“I was wondering if council would consider deleting one paragraph ‘We are disappointed by the approach taken by the province,'” Peabody asked. “The tone might be a little too harsh there. I have talked to our MPP and expressed our concerns about affordable housing, but I just want to be careful of the tone.”
The letter requests that the request the province put transition plans in place to minimize impact on development review and approvals.
