Bruce County Introduces Land Acknowledgement Protocol

Bruce County Introduces Land Acknowledgement Protocol

Bruce County has introduced a land acknowledgment protocol.

In a release, a comprehensive Indigenous Reconciliation Planning Initiative began in January 2022 for the county.

With the guidance of the Saugeen Ojibway Nation, the land acknowledgment protocol aligns with the principles of truth, respect, recognition, responsibility and collaborative relationships.

Original artwork was also unveiled which helped commemorate the land acknowledgment protocol.

The commissioning of the artwork by local Indigenous artist Kennedy Cameron-Nashkewa honours the connection the Anishinaabe people share with the land.

Cameron-Nashkewa’s said, “This painting is my way of giving thanks to the land that holds us, to the ancestors who guide us, and to the generations yet to come. May this piece invite reflection, respect, and a renewed sense of responsibility. For we are all part of the circle.”
