Bruce County Museum set to mark beginning of Black History Month with Feb. 4th Event

The Bruce County Museum & Cultural Centre is set to mark the beginning of Black History Month in February with a special presentation.

The event “Erasing Erasure” will cover the work to recognize the more than 1,200 people buried in unmarked graves in Owen Sound’s Potter’s Field.

Many of the buried were fleeing slavery in the US via the Underground Railroad, and arrived at its northernmost terminus in Owen Sound.

It is set to take place on Saturday, February 4th from 2 to 4 pm in the Museum’s Bruce Power Theatre.

Guest speakers at the event will be Dorothy Abbot of the Grey County Black Heritage Society and Aly Boltman, a local historian.

The presentation will be recorded and made available online for later viewing.
