Bruce Power enters MOU with Boston Scientific on New Y-90 Cancer Treatment

Bruce Power announced today that it has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding with Boston Scientific to explore the feasibility of producing cancer-fighting yttrium-90 (Y-90) in its reactors.

The company already produces cobalt-60, which is used in the sterilization of 40 percent of the world’s single-use medical devices.

Ontario Energy Minister Todd Smith said in the release that with the growing global demand for medical isotopes it is their opportunity to cement Ontario’s leadership in the innovative space.

Y-90 glass microspheres are used to treat hepatic malignancies.
