Anyone planning to operate a golf cart within the Township must register their golf car with Huron-Kinloss before using the roadway.
Under this pilot, the golf cars will be considered motor vehicles under the Highway Traffic Act and operators will be expected to follow the rules of the road.

Additionally specific requirements have been added for golf cars including:
- drivers must have an Ontario drivers license
- Only operated within the Township of Huron-Kinloss
- Can only be operated to a maximum speed of 50 km/h
- Can’t be driven on road in December through March
- Can’t be capable of travelling faster than 32 km/h on a level surface
- Can not tow other vehicles
- Slow moving vehicle sign must be mounted on rear of car
- Must not carry passengers younger than 8
- Adequate night time lighting is required if operated 30 mins before sunset or 30 minus after sunrise
- Daytime running lights required at all times
- Can’t carry combustible fuel, except in it’s own fuel tank
- Must be driven in the far-right lane
- Drivers are subject to all Highway Traffic Act rules of road and penalities ($2500 maximum fine for violating any of the regulations)
Golf cars must have the following safety equipment
- Steering wheel
- Service brakes
- Parking or emergency brakes
- Rear-view mirror
- Horn
- Good quality tires
- Daytime running lights
- Turn signals
- Brake lights
- Reflectors
They do not need a license plate or automobile insurance at this time.
