Council rejects plan to build affording housing in Huron County

A plan to have Huron County build homes as a way to address the housing crisis was defeated by Council by the slimmest of margins (8-7 vote to defeat).

Warden Glen McNeil was one who was in favour of the proposal by the County’s Economic Development Department but says there are some who felt uneasy about getting the County into the construction business.

The report called Huron County Housing Development Corporation suggested homes would go in the $300,000 range, and the first phase would see up to 6 homes built at a cost of between $5 Million and $10 Million.

McNeil says despite Council turning down the proposal, they are still focused on getting more affordable and attainable housing in Huron County.
