Driver charged after vehicle ends up on top of a headstone at a cemetery

An Owen Sound man is facing charges after a vehicle crashed into a headstone at a cemetery in Owen Sound.

Police there were called to Greenwood Cemetery Tuesday night around 6:15 about a single-vehicle crash.

They arrived to find a Nissan Altima with the front end resting on the top of the headstone with its wheels off the ground.

An investigation determined that the vehicle had lost control while driving around the cemetery.

No one was hurt but police noticed the driver was displaying signs of impairment and several open containers of alcohol were found.

The 25-year-old was arrested and taken to the detachment where breath samples confirmed that the driver was over the legal limit.

His license was suspended for 90 days, his vehicle was impounded, and he will appear in an Owen Sound court on June 16th.
