Federal carbon tax increase means it will cost more to fill your vehicle

The Federal Carbon Tax has increased to $50 a tonne and you’ll be feeling it at the pumps.

Today’s increase is adding another 2.2 cents to cost of a litre of gasoline for a total of 11 cents.

According to gasbuddy.com, gas stations in Goderich are selling a litre of regular at $1.73, in Kincardine it’s $1.75, and over in Port Elgin, it is $1.78 a litre.

The federal levy will apply directly to Ontario but other provinces such as British Columbia, New Brunswick and Prince Edward Island have also raised their provincial carbon levies to stay in line.

The Conservatives pushed a motion last month asking the Liberals to delay or cancel the planned increase as prices have already risen too much.
