Twenty Walkerton residents could be displaced for the holidays after a fire at an apartment building on Thursday afternoon.
Brockton firefighters responded to a call around 1 p.m. of a blaze at a Bruce County Housing Corporation property along John Street.
A full evacuation of all 20 tenants in the building took place. No injuries were reported.
Residents were relocated to a warming centre at the Walkerton Arena and Bruce County says they are working with partner organizations on sheltering tenants and other immediate needs.
The building remains in the possession of emergency officials and there’s no estimate on when tenants will be allowed back in.
Local fire crews say the working smoke alarms played a big part in helping everyone get out safely.
