First SWERVE festival draws over 3,500

Parent Hillary Einboden and her family speak with an engineer from MDA Canada, the company behind the Canadarm, about one of their sophisticated surveillance robots.

Over 3,500 visitors came through to check out the first-ever SWERVE festival this past weekend in Southampton.

Hosted by the Nuclear Innovation Institute (NII) the three-day festival gave guests of all ages a hands-on feel for life in the future. Exhibits from the weekend included test driving electric cars, a robot dance parties and a virtual spacewalk.

Dana Van Allen, NIIs Director of Communication, says as of now, there’s no date for another festival set. But given the excellent feedback they received, there’s plans for more “satellite” SWERVE events down the line for local schools and organizations.
