The dispatch currently operates out of Stratford, but when the contract ends, Goderich will be moving the operation north on Oct. 17.
Fire Chief Jeff Wormington says the switch will benefit the department as the Owen Sound dispatch is able to timestamp calls rather than have one their firefighters do it by hand.
They also offer an online service to issue burn permits which Wormington says will be a big help.
The switch will only impact residents whose property is monitored by an alarm company. In that case, they’ll need the company to contact the fire department immediately to be provided with a new emergency contact number.
