Huron County OPP pleading with Vehicle Owners to Lock Vehicles & Secure Keys

Huron County OPP is once again pleading with vehicle owners to take some personal action to help curb the number of vehicle thefts across the Region.

They say it doesn’t cost you anything and it only takes a second to lock your vehicle and remove the keys, yet the numbers don’t lie as too many people they say aren’t doing it.

A year-to-date look at stolen vehicle statistics in Huron County reveals 50 vehicles have been stolen so far in 2022.

This is an increase from 41 the same period last year, a 22 percent increase.

Perth, South Bruce and Wellington County have also seen increases in vehicle thefts during the same period.

The overwhelming majority of these vehicles were crimes of opportunity with the vehicles left unlocked and the ignition key readily accessible inside.
