The Gaol is a unique octagonal building that served as the County Jail from its opening in 1841 until its closure in 1972.
At the time of its construction, it was viewed as a model for a humanitarian prison design.
The Gaol is now a National Historical Site that receives thousands of visitors each year.
It is open May until October Monday to Saturday 10 am until 4:30pm and Sunday 1 to 4:30pm.
