That is down 1.2 percent from March’s unemployment rate and it is the second-lowest in Ontario.
Overall net employment rose by 2,800 made up mostly of gains in part-time work (+3,000) offsetting full-time job losses (-200).
Most of the job gains were in the service-producing sector (net +2,000) although healthcare and social assistance (-2,300) are still seeing job losses.
The goods-producing sector saw a net increase in jobs by 800 led by utilities (+1,400).
The provincial unemployment rate also went down in the month of April to 5.6 percent, compared to 6.2 percent in March.
