The Smart Beach project is being spearheaded by the Municipal Innovation Council (part of the Nuclear Innovation Institute) along with the University of Windsor.
Centre for Municipal Innovation Director Becky Smith says this project with see innovative technology used to detect unusual water hazards and educate users on safe and sustainable beach behaviour.
Smith says there will be sensors placed in the water and along the shoreline that will collect data over the summer.
She says once the pilot project is complete, the hope is to have the technology be put applied to other beaches along the shoreline.
