Kincardine Councillor concerned with lack of Tenders on Upcoming Paving Project

Kincardine Councillor concerned with lack of Tenders on Upcoming Paving Project

The Muncipality of Kincardine received a Report on its 2023 Hot Mix Paving Tander.

In it the project of resurfacing 6 kilometers of Sideroad 20-Bruce Road 1.

The project had been budgeted at $875,000 and was to include culvert replacement & other related work.

Staff recommended the contract for just paving be awarded to E.C. King Contracting.

Ward 2 Councillor Bill Stewart had concerns with their being just 2 bidders on such a high value project.

“We have a $653,000 project. If we went with the second tender we would have been over budget. I am getting really concerned. I am not looking at anyone but we are going to have to cultivate a few more people to come and tender.”

Director of Infrastructure & Development Adam Weishar attributed the lack of tenders partially to the conglomeration of the paving industry which has resulted in less total companies available to take on the paving work and resulting in less choice.
