Kincardine partners with Company to Launch Food Waste Diversion Pilot Project

The Municipality of Kincardine has announced it has partnered on an Innovative On-Site Food Waste Diversion Pilot Project, called the Food Cycler.

The project is in collaboration  with Food Cycle Science, and sees the units provided to 180 households in the community at a subsidized cost.

The countertop units are an alternative to composting and uses a specialized grinding system, to produce an odorless, nutrient-rich material that can be used as a fertilizer in plants and gardens.

There are two units available depending on the amount of food scraps produces; the original FoodCycle with a 2.5l litre capacity or the FoodCycler Maestro, intended for family households.

The costs are $150 and $300 plus HST. Delivery of units is scheduled for later this month.

Once households receive their system, they will track the amount of waste they’ve diverted over a 12-week period and fill out a closing survey.

The pilot project is limited to 180 participants.
