Central Huron is doing away with their annual dog licences and moving to a lifetime tag system.
Dogs will now have the same tag while they reside in Central Huron and the municipality will send out an invoice annually for a renewal fee. The cost is $25 for regular breeds.
Tag payments are due by March 31 or an additional $20 per dog will be added as of April 1 if full payment hasn’t been received. Tag fees that are still outstanding by the end of the July, will be applied to property tax accounts.
The municipality reminds owners that a dog tag is the best form of ID for your pet and will help with returning them if they’re lost. If your dog is picked up without a licence, you may be subject to additional fees.
If you need to replace your dog’s lifetime tag over the years due to wear or loss, there will be a $10 replacement fee per tag.
