Local Areas Set to Receive Gas Taxes for Local Transit Funding

Bruce-Grey-Owen Sound MPP Bill Walker and Huron-Bruce MPP Lisa Thompson announced today that the Provincial Government is providing a total of just over $1 million dollars to support the improvement and expansion of public transit services across multiple local municipalities.

The funds are part of the province’s Gas Tax program which is set to allocate over $375 million dollars this year to 107 municipalities to deliver public transit.

Funding can be used to extend service hours, buy transit vehicles, add routes, prove accessibility or upgrade infrastructure.

Thompson says the Saugeen Mobility and Regional Transit is an extremely important service for many residents across Bruce and Grey Counties and adds the provincial bump up will help ensure that they continue through these challenging times.
