A local welding program is helping forge the future for students without needing to leave the area.
The Nuclear Innovation Institute in partnership with the Saugeen Sparks Training Centre and Provincial Building and Construction Trades Council of Ontario has brought in hands on training for students across Bruce, Grey and Huron County’s.
18 students this summer passed their test certifications getting a total of 51 welding certificates. Students such as Delilah say they went in with very little welding skills but she adds while she thought she wouldn’t pass, she got two CWB tickets.
Two students from the program were able to accept apprenticeships with the Boilermakers Local 128 with four others on employment pathways with another union.
