Goderich Mayor Trevor Bazinet introduced a motion at a recent council meeting regarding court security and prisoner transportation costs.
While Goderich does get some government funding on the topic, the formula for funding hasn’t changed and does not have full coverage.
This issue is expected to leave the town in a shortfall of $150,000.
Bazinet says they’re hoping this can be broken down from the county or among the municipalities as a whole.
“We want either Huron County to look after the shortfall or it’ll be split up among the nine lower tier municipalities by population ratio so that’s kind of what we’re looking at for a report.” said Bazinet.
Its expected staff will put together a report can return at a future meeting.
