Mobile Crisis Response Team coming to Grey Bruce before year-end

Inspector Paul Richardson; Naomi Vodden, Grey Bruce Health Services Director of Mental Health and Addiction Services; Inspector Krista Miller; Shannon Reinelt, Manager Mental Health Services Grey Bruce Health; Staff Sergeant Ryan Olmstead.

The OPP and the Grey Bruce Health Services (GBHS) announced that they’ll soon be launching a Mobile Crisis Response Team (MCRT) for the area.

The partnership will allow clinicians from GBHS to respond to with police to calls for service involving crisis and mental health. The response team workers will provide de-escalation and short-term crisis intervention, safety planning and stabilization, referrals to appropriate services for long-term support, and recovery-oriented interventions.

Some of the goals of the MCRT is to be able to provide those in crisis with timely access to mental health services, while also deferring them from the criminal justice system whenever possible.

The response team is expected to launch before the end of the year.
