In an interview with the Shoreline Classics, the Huron Bruce MPP and Minister of Agriculture, Food, and Rural Affairs says the move to close indoor dining spaces, indoor recreational facilities, and meeting halls as of Wednesday was in response to the rising number of COVID-19 cases in Ontario.
Thompson says their top doctor suggests Omicron has been prevalent in the recent spike and that is going to overwhelm our health care system.
The province has also closed schools for a minimum two weeks and have shifted to remote learning.
Thompson says the Ministry of Education is working with school boards to make sure classrooms are safe when students and staff return on January 17th.
