Nearly $40 Million Being Invested to Help Municipalities Build More Homes

Nearly Million Being Invested to Help Municipalities Build More Homes

The province is putting forward over $39 million across 5 Huron-Bruce municipalities to help build more homes.

The funding in water infrastructure is aimed to help build 4974 new homes in Huron East, Saugeen Shores, South Huron, Ashfield-Colborne-Wawanosh and Central Huron.

The funding comes from Ontario’s Housing-Enabling Water Systems Fund, a stream of the Municipal Housing Infrastructure Program.

MPP for Huron-Bruce Lisa Thompson says with project funding, this will make getting affordable housing easier to tackle.

“They’re in a position now to attract developers to have that confidence and opportunity to come in, hit the ground running, provide great jobs in the community they are working. Most importantly to realize the affordable, accessible housing that everyone is looking for.” said Thompson.

This funding will support the following municipalities and their individual projects:

Municipality Project Funding Amount Housing Enabled (up to)
Municipality of Huron East Seaforth Wastewater Treatment Plant Expansion $12,819,000.00 962
Town of Saugeen Shores Southampton Water Pollution Control Plant Upgrades $17,976,250.00 1,634
Municipality of South Huron London Road South Trunk Sanitary Sewer $5,367,325.00 2,100
Township of Ashfield-Colborne-Wawanosh Century Heights Drinking Water Expansion $2,110,156.00 156
Municipality of Central Huron King Street Infrastructure Expansion Project $1,176,195.00 122

MHIP is part of the government’s plan to protect the province and include investments in housing and community enabling infrastructure to help municipalities deliver the core infrastructure needed and lay the foundation for new homes.
