Heading into the New Year, there will be some new bylaws in place in Saugeen Shores all aimed to protect trees.
The Tree Protection on Town Owned Property By Law and the Urban Tree Conservation Bylaw Together, both reinforce the municipality’s commitment to environmental stewardship and responsible growth.
Mayor Luke Charbonneau says with the new bylaws also comes a plan to get more trees planted in the community.“A new plan proposed in our 2026 budget to plant 1000 trees a year for the next ten years. Everybody loves trees, they are good for our communities, make the air more breathable and life more livable and it’s just another thing we want to do to make life better in Saugeen Shores.” said Charbonneau.
During the prep of the Urban Tree Canopy Plan last year it was found in an aerial study that tree canopy covered 39.6 per cent of the urban settlement area in Saugeen Shores.
