Ontario Investing in Job Training for Harness Racing Workers

The Province announced that they are investing $2.1 million dollars to train workers for careers in the horse racing industry. The new training program will provide 250 participants with free training, up to $3,000 to cover expenses and paid work placements.

Employers can also receive up to $1,000 per hire.

The announcement was made by Monte McNaughton, Minister of Labour, Training and Skills Development along with MPP’s from Flabourough-Glanbrook, Sarnia-Lambton, Randy Pettapiece from Perth-Wellington and Bill Walker for Bruce-Grey-Owen Sound.

The government estimates that the horse racing and breeding sector contributes $2.3 billion dollars annually to Ontario’s Economy but faces continuing shortages of workers with over 1,000 going unfilled in September of last year.
