OPP emphasizing staying off closed roads during winter storm

Now that signs of winter are starting to appear, the Ontario Provincial Police are urging motorists to be prepared for driving in treacherous weather conditions.

South Bruce OPP Inspector Krista Miller says it is important to keep some key items in your vehicle (like a flashlight, blanket, and portable radio) in the event it stalls or gets stuck at the side of the road.

She also stresses the importance of staying off roads that are closed due to poor weather conditions as you can be charged among other things.

Miller says between December of 2021 and this past March, out of 311 motor vehicle collisions that OPP attended to, 112 were due driving too fast under icy conditions.
