Huron County OPP are warning banks of fake passports making local rounds.
On July 16th police were called to a bank in Wingham after a report of possible fraudulent documents and a suspicious person.
Just after 3:30pm bank staff said a man had attempted to open a bank account using a passport from a foreign country with immigration papers and other documents.
The man shared he lived and worked locally but bank staff say an address given to them did not exist.
The bank also confirmed the man was not employed at the business he claimed and when confronted, he ran leaving some documents behind. Police say the intention to open accounts with false info is used by scammers to gradually defraud banks of money overtime.
