Over 4300 Charges Laid in Canada Day Safety Campaign

West Region OPP laid a total of 4372 charges across all 13 detachments during the Canada Day traffic safety campaign.

The campaign running from June 26th to July 5th it highlighted the importance of wearing seat belts, helmets and personal flotation devices while officers also educated on bad driving behaviours such as speeding, distracted driving and impaired driving.

5097 traffic stops were conducted with 304 charges laid for failure to wear a seat belt 17 personal flotation device charges, 39 distracted driving and 102 for impaired operation.

Speeding was the highest with 1828 charges.
