Port Elgin Tankard and Scotties raising funds for local rinks

The Port Elgin Tankard and Scotties gets underway next week, with opening ceremonies running on Monday night at 6:15 p.m.

The bonspiel will feature some of the top mens and womens curling rinks from across Ontario, including Team Glenn Howard and Team Rachel Homan. Draws run all week with playoffs set for Jan. 28 and 29.

Tickets are around 75 per cent sold. Dave Middleton of the Port Elgin curling club says even though the event is in Saugeen Shores, the event can help raise funds for your local Bruce County rink.

“When you pop online to purchase (tickets) you can pick your local curling club and they’ll benefit from it, they’ll get a portion of that ticket price. Right now, we’ve raised between 11 and $12,000 for area curling clubs,” he says.

Middleton adds that the shared profits should make their way to area clubs by Monday.
