Province announces funding available to agri-food sector

The Province is putting in money to help boost the supply chain in the agri-food sector.

Minister of Agriculture, Food, and Rural Affairs and Huron Bruce MPP Lisa Thompson was at the Gay Lea Foods Cooperative in Teeswater Monday to announce that $25 Million is being invested over the next three years that would allow the sector to expand and remain competitive.

Thompson says the agri-food business has played an important role in Ontario’s economic recovery during the pandemic.

The Strategic Agri-Food Processing Fund will provide grants of up to $3 Million to small, medium, and large businesses to invest in capital, equipment, and technology.

Thompson says her government recognizes that there are opportunities for these businesses to support processors and they want to do the same.

Thompson was joined by Chris Conway, CEO of Food and Beverage Ontario, and Rob Goodwill of Gay Lea Foods Cooperative.
