Province begins planning for Expansion of Bruce Power site

The Provincial Government made an announcement this morning on-site at Bruce Power in efforts to ensure Ontario keeps up with energy demands for a decade or two in the future.

The announcement made by Minister of Energy Todd Smith, along with Huron-Bruce MPP Lisa Thompson, Bruce Power President & CEO Mike Rencheck, along with the Mayors of both Kincardine Ken Craig and Saugeen Shores Luke Charbonneau.

Minister Smith explains what it means for the site.

“Bruce Power is going to start community consultations, they’re going to conduct environmental assessment for federal approval to determine the feasibility of siting up to 4,800 megawatts of new nuclear generation on the site.”

The demand for electricity in Ontario is expected to grow 8 terawatt hours per year due to the adoption of electric vehicles, manufacturing and more.
