The Act entitled the Providing More Care, Protecting Seniors and Building More Beds act would replace the existing ltc act in place since 2007 and amend the 2010 retirement home act.
Included in the legislation is the minimum of 4 hours of daily direct care per resident by March 2025, strengthen the Resident’s bill of rights to allign with the Human Rights Code and recognize caregivers.
There would be the creation of new compliance and enforcement tools for homes including doubling of fines on conviction for offences under the new act.
There are close to 70,000 Ontarians living in 626 long term care homes and more than 60,000 Ontarians who live in over 770 licensed retirement homes in the province.
