Despite a packed crowd at Monday’s council meeting in opposition of proposed recreation fee rate hikes, council is still moving forward with the idea.
A variety of amendments came forward during the meeting which had a major focus of the increase of recreation fees which councilors such as Mitch Wright say would be more than three times the current costs.
Wright asked for only a 25 per cent increase in package fees.
Reeve Paul Heffer also proposed to just increase fees by 70 per cent of what staff proposed for 2024 but when he mentioned it wouldn’t put it up too high, the crowd was less than pleased.
Director of Finance Chris Townes spoke briefly saying questions and concerns have been identified and addressed in emails and did not have anything else to add.
When the amended bylaw passed to increase fees many from the crowd jeered council saying they would be voted out.
