The Rotary Club of Southampton is celebrating its 85th Anniversary this year.
The service club was founded back on May 5th, 1938.
To celebrate the anniversary & thank the community the club is holding a Free Family Fun Day on Saturday, May 13th at Jubilee Park in Southampton.
The event from 11:30 am to 2:30 pm will see hotdogs, fries, popcorn, cake and soft drinks as well as family fun of games, entertainment and a photo op with Bearama.
When the Co-Chairs of the Anniversary Committee spoke last night at Saugeen Shores Council Deputy Mayor Diane Huber became emotionally when remembering her interactions with the club throughout the years.
“On behalf of every kid, and every person in Southampton that individually has benefitted from Rotary in Southampton I want to express that I am so proud to have been one of those kids.”
Deputy Mayor Huber recounted her time as a youth as a server at Rotary meetings at the Walker House, going on a youth exchange to Kelowna, British Columbia and being a participant in the Adventure in Citizenship in Ottawa that is still being undertaken today.
