The Saugeen Valley Conservation Authority shared word that February 2nd is World Wetlands Day.
It is a day designated to raise global awareness about the vital role they play for the environment and all humankind.
They contribute to functions that benefit us such as water purification, groundwater replenishment, stabilization of shorelines and storm protection and flood control.
The date of February 2nd was chosen as it commemorates the signing & adoption of the Convention on Wetlands back in 1971.
