Saugeen Shores approves Minor Variance that sees Waterloo Street Homes sold Freehold

The Town of Saugeen Shores has approved a minor variance to a housing development at 1079 Waterloo Street in Port Elgin.

It sees a previous 12 townhomes be sold as freehold units that were previously being build as condominium format.

Committee member Chad Zimmermann spoke to the worries he had approving the change.

“Respectfully I worry this a bit of circumventing the process by having something that’s condo now freehold. I think the business decision is perhaps monetary as I think you can get quite a bit more with freehold.”

The reasoning behind the change were business related stated Planning Consultant for the Project Dana Kieffer.

“A standard condominium was initially proposed. The developer decided to go a different route. So what we are going to do is park lot control application on the front.”

The remainder of the property would remain a condominium format.
