Saugeen Shores council approves more funds for Lamont Sports Park

Saugeen Shores council approved additional funding to cover the construction of Lamont Sports Park’s Phase 2, which is projected to cost around $4.2 million.

The second phase will include the construction of two ball diamonds, two washrooms, and an accessible playground.

Nearly half of the construction costs have been met by the town’s fundraising committee, who have collected over $1.7 million in donations.

Another $1.25 million was committed by the town and an additional $300,000 has been received through grants.

On Monday, council approved using $2.1 million from their reserve legacy fund to cover the rest, so taxes won’t need to be raised.

Mayor Luke Charbonneau says they have a chance to recoup more costs down the line as the town begins to explore decommissioning other town ball diamonds in 2023.

The construction contract for Phase 2 is expected to be awarded in April.
