Saugeen Shores receives update on Saugeen Mobility & Regional Transit at Meeting Monday

The Town of Saugeen Shores Council heard a presentation from Saugeen Mobility & Regional Transit at Monday’s Council Meeting.

In the update they heard that the service that provides specialized public transportation to residents of the area including Huron-Kinloss, Kincardine, Saugeen Shores, Southgate, West Grey and more.

It primarily provides services to people with mobility or mental health issues who are unable to use conventional transit or taxi services.

Stephan Labelle says they are primarily funded by Member Municipalities.

“So 22 percent of our revenues comes from user fees. The rest comes from the Province and Member Municipalities.”

The service operated with a budget of $1.548 million dollars last year. Of that $698,500 was provided by partner municipalities, $339,511 from user fees and $540,196 from the Provincial Gas Program.

In Saugeen Shores the cost to the Town was $131,003.

Clients are charged 55 cents per kilometer travelled with a $7.50 minimum per ride.

They also charge $22 per hour for wait time, as well as group outings at a range of prices.

In Saugeen Shores the service currently assists 314 riders who last year took over 4 thousand rides.
