Seniors show up in Kincardine area elections, youth not so much

Senior voters continue to have an outsized say in local politics, according to some area post-election numbers.

In Kincardine, over 60% of voters aged 65-84 cast a ballot in this month’s election. No other age group topped 50%, with the 25-34 age range showing up least, at just under 29%.

Huron-Kinloss had similar numbers: residents 65-84 were the only group where more than half cast a ballot. The lowest voter turnout was in the 25-34 age range, where one quarter of potential electors cast a ballot.

Overall, Kincardine had a 45.1% voter turnout, while Huron-Kinloss saw 40.9% of eligible residents cast a ballot.

Internet was by far the preferred voting method, with 84% of votes being cast online. In Huron-Kinloss, nearly 250 votes were cast in the final hours before polls closed.
