The Smart Beach Light is now up and running at Station Beach in Kincardine.
A ribbon cutting was held to mark the celebration which is another way to boost safety at the beach for visitors.
The system uses green, yellow and red lights, a system alike to traffic lights to show current waterfront conditions and help beachgoers make informed decisions before they enter the water.
Jacob Soter, Director of Swim Smart Technology says something like this potentially could be implemented across other communities along Lake Huron.
“Well for our portion its relatively straight forward. For the wave model that would require working with the University of Waterloo to collect similar data but I believe that’s already in the works. It is a possibility for sure” said Soter.
The Smart Beach Light is located near the main pedestrian access to the public swimming area.
