Sonya Roote has become the next Chief of Saugeen First Nation.
In the recent election, Sonya received 201 votes for Chief of the 540 received, beating out incumbent Conrad Ritichie who received 188.
While defeated, Ritchie was still elected as a councilor along with eight others.
The Town of Saugeen Shores says they recognize and respect Saugeen First Nation’s leadership, governance, language, culture and traditions and values the relationship between both communities.
