The Southampton Rotary Club is well underway for their Used Musical Instruments Drive to support 6 school music programs.
The Rotary Club has partnered up with Cam Porter, a renowned former music teacher and conductor with the Port Elgin Community Band with hopes to ensure no school musician in Saugeen Shores is left without the tools they need to explore their passion.
Rotary Member, Jim Wade says the idea came to them after seeing a lack of such support for music programs locally.
“This year we found there was a real lack of funding for all the schools in the area and there was 6 vibrant programs and now its down to 3. What we decided was people have a ton on instruments in an attic, basement, somewhere and they’re just sitting there. So put out this music drive for used instruments and we’ve had real good feedback on it’ said Wade.
Drop off locations are available at Three Sheets Brewing in Port Elgin and Martin’s Bicycle Shop in Southampton.
Proceeds from their dinner auction in October will be used to make any needed adjustments to the instruments and purchase more.
