Today is National Police Woman Day

The Huron County OPP shared that today, September 12th, is National Police Woman Day.

The Huron Detachment boasts 16 female uniform officers, and two female Special Constables.

Provincially, OPP Commissioner Thomas Carrique shared that women first served as Provincial Constables with the OPP back in 1974.

15 joined orientation that year and 25 more the following year.

He adds that it was a change in the face of policing and reflected greater cultural shifts in society.

He says today we celebrate women in policing and adds their contributions and professional expertise in diverse areas continue to propel and inspire change within the organization and policing as a whole.
