The Town of South Bruce Peninsula is reaffirming their commitment to the protection of the Piping Plover.
At the end of March, the Provincial Endangered Species Act was repealed and replaced by the Species Conservation Act which has the Piping Plover not being listed as a protected endangered species.
As a result of this change, the town cannot seek guidance or permits at a provincial level for maintenance activities undertaken or adjacent to the Town owned portion of Sauble Beach.
The town says they continue to follow the previously provided guidance documentation as the best practice to protect the Piping Plover and beach maintenance activities.
