Trump Imposing 50 Per Cent Tariff on Copper Imports

US President Donald Trump is imposing a 50 per cent tariff on copper imports but as to when it will take effect isn’t known.

The President hasn’t yet signed any executive orders to implement the tariffs and Canadian mining companies wouldn’t be mainly affected due to most raw copper production being exported to Asia according to Pierre Gratton, head of the Mining Association of Canada.

Canadian exports of copper and copper based products were valued at $9.3 billion in 2023 with around half going to the United States.

Exports of copper ores and concentrates were valued at $3.4 billion.
