Volunteer Shortage Could Impact Good Food Box Availability across Grey-Bruce

The United Way of Grey-Bruce has announced that due to a shortage of volunteers to assist with the Good Food Box program they may have to suspend availability of the program.

In a release today they advised that if more volunteers don’t join the program to help out the programs in Markdale, Tara, Teeswater and Walkerton the activities in the programs may have to be stopped.

The programs are currently operating and orders are still being accepted.

The issue of volunteers has already impacted the program in Sauble Beach. It have seen it’s activities paused due to lack of volunteer coordinators.

The Site Coordinators  are the people who are the point person locally, they setup the orders and work with the people packing boxes on the days they are picked up and they take about 15 hours of work a month.

Grey-Bruce has 20 Good Food Box sites across the Region.

Key days for the program are the Second Tuesdays in Teeswater, the third Tuesday in Walkerton and the fourth Tuesday in Tara and Markdale.

Anyone looking to help out with any of the programs can contact Laura Needham at l.needham@publichealthgreybruce.on.ca or call 519-376-9420 extention 1267.
