OPP assisted in bringing 23 people to safety on Sunday after they became stranded on Georgian Bay as ice shelf separated them from shore.

Police say the ice drifted around 2kms and split across several sections, leaving some to be partially submerged in the frigid waters.

Emergency crews which included OPP Aviation, Marine, Inter Township Fire, Owen Sound Fire, Hanover Fire, AirOrnge, Grey County Paramedics and Bruce County Paramedics and Wellington County OPP were on the scene.

By 2:30pm, all 23 individuals were safely airlifted to shore with minor injuries reported, including hypothermia.

All rescued are expected to make a full recovery.
